Oleksandr (‘Sasha’) began karting when he was 5 years old. His passion for driving fast and winning become the focal point of his young life in the Ukraine and within a short period of time, Sasha was the junior karting national champion. In 2023, Sasha was crowned the 2023 FIA Junior European Karting Champion with Kart Republic! Oleksandr became the first Ukrainian to join a Formula 1 team in September 2023, joining the Williams Driver Academy.
In 2017, Sasha began to expand his karting from national championships to a central European championships, which he won on the first time of asking. On the basis that WSK karting in Italy is regarded as the highest level in world karting, Sasha focused on competing there. In his first year in the OKJ class, Sasha made an immediate impact by recording multiple podiums finishes and moving to Ricky Flynn Motorsport at the end of 2021. In 2022, Sasha began the year by winning the WKS Super Master Series in OKJ in dominant fashion, recording 5 race wins and a podium finish in over 70% of the races. During the first round of the CIK European Karting championship, Sasha suffered an broken leg during a race event which precluded him from competing in both the European and World Karting Championships, despite being seen as a hot favourite.
After enduring many months in hospital and after several operations, Sasha returned to FIA European Karting with Kart Republic and dominated the series and was crowned the 2023 FIA Junior European Karting Champion!
